The Royal Solent Yacht Club in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight is hosting the 57th annual Folkboat Week for members of the Folkboat Association between 20 – 27 August.
A fleet of around 40 Folkboats, in Open and Classic divisions, will be racing in the Western Solent and Christchurch Bay from their base in Yarmouth and enjoying the Club’s warm hospitality once off the water.
The popular event, which is supported by sponsors Lymington Yacht Haven, is as much about the week-long shoreside socialising as the racing and attracts competitors from all over the south of England and as far west as Somerset and Devon.
This year also marks the momentous 80th anniversary of the Nordic Folkboat, the first of which was designed, built and launched in Sweden in 1942.
Sailing instructions for the six days of racing are now published and 28 boats have entered to date, with online entry via the Royal Solent Yacht Club website open until 12 August:
Rear Commodore Sailing, Tom Symes, said: “We’re so looking forward to welcoming old and new friends to the Royal Solent for what we’ll sure will be a fantastic week.”
