THOUSANDS of people are set to descend on Southampton to celebrate one of the biggest shipping events in Europe.
TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat show will see maritime fans and shoppers arrive at Mayflower Park to browse the hundreds of stalls and businesses that are set to take part.
The biggest in the UK, the on-the-water event will welcome 144 businesses and around 600 traders who will be unveiling gadgets and products to companies and those who simply enjoy being out on the water.
As well as the glamour of the yachting industry and the family-run businesses, stars from the reality and sporting world will also come together to mark the 49th annual event.
As preparations continue ahead of the grand opening tomorrow, 144 marine businesses from Hampshire will be heading to the festival, which runs until September 24.
The companies will join almost 600 fellow marine brands on display, from boating accessories and sailing wear to boating holidays and luxury yachts.
Murray Ellis, chief officer of boat shows at organisers British Marine, said: “We are privileged to have such an ideal location to get people on the water and on average 10,000 visitors go boating or trial watersports across the ten days of the show.
“This year we want to get more of our visitors enjoying on the water experiences.
“This means more variety, more accessibility and more capacity, which we are planning to deliver at this year’s event.
“We are determined to see record numbers enjoying life on the water with family and friends at this year’s show.”
The show is set to be opened by former Made in Chelsea reality TV star Millie Mackintosh, with motorsport presenter Suzi Perry joining former athlete Colin Jackson CBE.
On top of the Hampshire businesses attending, the event will see more than 20 world, European and UK show launches.
It starts at 11am.
